British Urban Film Festival Makes a Return to UK Television with ‘Buff Presents…’

On Saturday 21st April, the British Urban Film Festival (BUFF) returns to British television for the first time in five years to bring viewers a selection of great independent productions. Working in collaboration with The Community Channel (Sky Channel 539, Virgin Media 233, Freeview 87), from 9pm on Saturday, 'Buff Presents…' will see four films receive their television debuts – regular SceneTV readers may even recognise a couple!

21.00: Before They Were Dubz – Directed by Jessie Grace Mellor, Exile Media Group/Victrix Films 2011

The year is 2002 and before all the top 40 hits, the Channel 4 show, the 4 Mobo awards and the 15 million plus hits on You Tube for their ‘Playing With Fire’ video, NDubz were ‘The Lickle Rinsers’ and they were three talented artists just starting out. For the first time on television, ‘Before They Were Dubz’ features rare footage of the fourteen-year-olds behind the scenes at one of their earliest gigs, Dappy being pursued by girl fans, the trio talking about what they would do if they made it big and Dappy and Fazer showing off their freestyle skills whilst making tracks in their tiny (then) studio.

22.30: Drink, Drugs and KFC – Directed by Aml Ameen, AmeenDream Entertainment 2011

‘Drink, Drugs & KFC’ marks the directorial debut of actor Aml Ameen (Kidulthood, The Bill, Harry’s Law) and explores the dynamics of friendship between a group of young boys growing up in London. Comical, yet heart-warming and real, we watch young Nathan and his friends Max, Derek and Skipper head to an under-18 rave. Cue drama, jokes and fights all in the name of teenage bravado and hopes of impressing the most popular girl at college – the beautiful Montana.

23.05: The Holiday – Directed by Ida Akesson, Sian Habell, Martin Wady, Eastern Edge Film Fund 2010

Middle-aged maintenance man Ken likes nothing better than hanging out at the local burger van with his co-workers, trading stories about their nagging wives and rowdy children. This year he's taking the family on holiday to the Costa Del Sol… or so he says.

23.20: Special Delivery – Directed by Geoff Searle, AmeenDream Entertainment 2011

‘Special Delivery’ is the story of a postwoman (starring Kamara Bacchus) who is bored of her life, and trapped in a mundane routine in which she wants out. When the possibility of a new route arises, this changes her path, and she finds herself led on a journey of adventure and an unusual love affair.

All four films have been previously shown at the annual British Urban Film Festival, which is now in its seventh year and is a respected autumn fixture on the London arts scene. 'BUFF Presents…' is being brought to our TV screens by Emmanuel Anyiam-Osigwe, founder and owner of Buff Enterprises and Jasmine Dotiwala (executive producer) and Alex Kann (editor of TV & Online) at the Community Channel.

'BUFF Presents…' starts on Saturday April 21 at 9.00pm (repeated Sunday April 22).
