reed.co.uk, the UK’s largest job site, has released the shortlist for its sixth Short Film Competition which sees up–and-coming filmmakers compete for the chance to win a top prize of £10,000. The competition received 572 entries this year, the highest ever in its history, as filmmakers took on the challenge to create a three minute short film based on an original idea around the theme ‘The Question.’ The work submitted by the 12 shortlisted filmmakers feature a variety of interpretations on the theme, covering everything from romance to religion.
Now in its sixth year, the reed.co.uk Short Film Competition was created to provide career changing opportunities for young, up–and-coming British creative talent and to have their work seen by industry professionals.
The filmmakers’ work will be put before an expert panel of judges, including Lisa Bryer, the Oscar-winning Producer of short film ‘Wasp’ as well as multi-award winning feature, The Last King of Scotland, for their chance to win the Grand Prix Award and Judges' Commendation Award. Film fans will also play a part in the judging process, with the 12 films now open for public vote on reed.co.uk to determine The People's Choice winner.
With some of the shortlisted filmmakers as young as 17 years old, the award ceremony, which takes place at BAFTA on 22nd April, will also see one filmmaker credited with The Best Young Filmmaker Award. Mark Rhodes, Marketing Director at reed.co.uk, commented: “As the UK's largest job site, reed.co.uk offers the perfect platform for creative work to be seen and shared and we’re really impressed by the high calibre of work submitted. The fact that we’ve seen record number of entries this year, combined with our fantastic panel of expert judges’ is testament not only to how successful the competition has become, but also to the respect with which it is now held within the industry.”
The reed.co.uk Short Film Competition is supported by BAFTA, Channel 4, Met Film School, British Council, and Creative England.
