This ranges from continuing dramas such as Casualty, EastEnders, Holby City and Doctors to series and serials such as Silent Witness, Luther and The Musketeers.

    BBC Drama believes that its content should accurately reflect and be enjoyed by as many people as possible. Currently black, Asian and minority ethnic groups (BAME) are under-represented in the development teams in BBC Drama and we want to address this – so that’s where you come in. These two Drama Assistant Script Editor Trainee posts are exciting training and development opportunities for those from black, Asian and other ethnic minority backgrounds who are passionate about getting into Drama script editing. This 12 month trainee scheme will see you deepen your understanding of the script editing process, developing your skills and gaining invaluable practical experience. Plus, you’ll receive industry-standard training from BBC experts. 

    There are two Assistant Script Editor training placements available in the following regions:

    • 1 role based in London: 6 months in Development/ 6 months on Holby City
    • 1 role based in the Nations: Cardiff or Glasgow: 6 months in Development/ 6 months on Production

    This exciting training scheme aims to give you an in depth understanding of the BBC’s script editing process. You will work closely with the development teams & with production and will learn how to provide editorial and research support.

    The Ideal Candidate

    The ideal candidate should have a passion for scripted Drama and ideally will have had some experience in the Media Industry which will be complemented by the scheme’s training in the area of Drama script editing. A genuine love of Drama is ‘key’ as is the ability to establish trust, rapport and strong working skills with people in a variety of roles. If you also have excellent communication skills, a naturally curious mind and a commitment to excellence, this scheme could be just for you.

    Package Description

    • BBC Drama Assistant Script Editor Trainee scheme
    • 12 months training and development opportunity
    • Training allowance/bursary: This is a training and development programme and as such does not attract a salary; however participants will be provided with an allowance for the duration of their training contract to enable them to participate in this scheme.
    • Out of London allowance – £20,800 per annum
    • In London allowance – £25,205 per annum

      Does this call  for 'minorities'  apply to LGBT people ?

      I am  a mature gay woman who writes living in Wales who would like to see more of our minority represented in positive way on TV/Radio.
