London Calling is an annual short film scheme which aims to nurture and champion the capital’s most exciting breakthrough filmmaking talent with a comprehensive package of production funding, training and expert mentoring. Previous shorts produced through London Calling include the Berlin Crystal Bear-winning Balcony, BAFTA-nominated Three Brothers, Riz Ahmed's directorial debut Daytimer, and Sundance, Tribeca and Berlin-selected White Riot: London

London Calling writers, directors and producers have gone on to make longer and more ambitious works, developing their careers within the moving image industries. Previous London Calling shorts have been selected and won awards at some of the biggest festivals around the world, and many of the London Calling directors have since moved on to make features.

London Calling has 16 awards of up to £4,000 for emerging London filmmakers, and London Calling Plus has four awards of up to £15,000 for BAME filmmaking talent with significant storytelling experience. Match funding can be sought for any film being produced through the scheme.

The scheme culminates in the London Calling Showcase and Awards at BFI Southbank, with a Jury cash prize for one London Calling film, a top industry prize for one London Calling Plus film and a DoP prize with £10,000 of kit hire from Panalux. A selection of the shorts are later screened at the BFI London Film Festival.
