Not long to go until the 9th Screen Nation Awards. Voting for the public categories closes on 20th February so make sure that you get your voice heard by clicking here. 

Just before you do, let's take a closer look at the nominees for the Favourite Nigerian (New Nollywood) Film award.

 

Amina 

Amina is written, produced and directed by Christian Ashaiku, a Nigerian-born London-based filmmaker. The film stars Emmerdale actor Will Johnson and Nollywood A-Lister Omotila Jalde-Ekeinde and tells the dramatic story of love, loss and redemption. Devastated by a series of life-changing events Amina (Jalde-Ekeinde) experiences a breakdown and finds herself in a mental hospital. There is light at the end of the tunnel in the form of her doctor (Johnson) but he must first overcome his own troubles. 

Confusion Na Wa

Starring O.C Ukeje, Confusion Na Wa is a dark comedy about a group of strangers whose fates become intertwined over the course of 24 hours. At the heart of everything is a phone found by two opportunists Charles and Chichi who, having read through its contents, decide to blackmail the owner Emeka. Little do they realise that their misdemeanours have set in motion a chain of events that will lead to their own downfall.

Flower Girl

Flower Girl revolves around a story of Kemi (Damilola Adegbite) who is dying to get married to Umar (Chris Attoh); a young man who is desperate to get ahead in his career. When their relationship hits troubled waters, Kemi seeks the help of movie superstar Tunde (Chuks Chukwujekwu) and they hatch a plan to get Kemi what she wants.

Hoodrush

Written and directed by Dimeji Ajibola, HoodRush is a musical thriller which follows two brothers bonded by their love for music but deeply separated by their means for success. Shez and Tavier are two of a kind pursuing a Herculean dream of becoming music stars. But in their pursuit for the top, are they heading for a fall? 

Onye Ozi

Metumaribe (Okey Bakassi) has just arrived in London with high expectations and a two-year plan to return to Nigeria a rich man. One fateful night, TJ an old English man (Stephen Moriaty) is chased by some masked men into a party organised to welcome Metu to London and shot in front of his eyes. As party goers run away, Metu attempts to help the man. The dying man squeezes an envelope and a bunch of keys into Metu's hand and whispers a message as he takes his last breath.

From that point on, Metu is involved. And no matter how much he runs from it or how long it takes; he knows he must deliver the message as he promised. Now his two-year plan has become a psychological adventure that will change his life and the lives of those around him forever.

Tango with Me

Lola (Genevieve Nnaji) and Uzo (Joseph Benjamin) are the perfect couple, their newly married life in front of them. All is well until the happiest day of their lives became the worst. This event leads the couple on a journey of self discovery. Tango with Me is a contemporary story about forgiveness and faith – a story that proves that love does indeed, conquer all.

Turning Point

A compelling drama of complacence, karma, moral justifications and redemption. A Nigerian-American playboy deals with the consequences after abandoning his American sweetheart for an arranged wife from back home. Written and directed by Niyi Towolawi, Turning Point stars Jackie Appiah and Igoni Archibong.
