The British Blacklist launched in 2012 as the UK’s only database of Black British Talent. After a successful year of keeping us all updated with hot news and information, they have been nominated for the Favourite Arts/Entertainment/Lifestyle Website or Magazine award. We caught up with the founder and managing director Akua Gyamfi to find out more.
So why the need for a database?
“I started The British Blacklist because I wanted to create something which celebrated and honoured the legacy of the talents of British AfriCarib people in the Entertainment industry.”
Maintaining any kind of database is going to take a lot or regular updating and hard work. Akua states that this is something that they are proud off – reaching their 1st year without collapsing under the pressure of maintaining the website. It is for this reason that they have become a reliable and trusted resource. There must have been some key learnings to take away right? Akua listed:
“Patience, belief, teamwork, confidence.”
So what’s the plan for The British Blacklist?
“Just to get better at meeting the needs of our audience and evolving The British Blacklist accordingly.”
