TV Pick| BBC Three Transforms Bradford for Bollywood Carmen

On Sunday 9 June, Bradford City Park will be transformed by the music, colour and the action of Bollywood Carmen to stage this BBC Three live televised event.

Carmen, played by ex-Eastender Preeya Kalidas, is a waitress from Bradford with dreams of being a Bollywood star. With the help of her best friends Kylie and Shazzy and café ownercome Queen Bee, Lily P, she seduces Don the security guard. He falls head-over-heels in love with Carmen, spurns his fiancée Tannishta, unaware that Carmen is totally star-struck and has turned her attention to AD, a Bollywood Star so big he only needs his initials!

Massive dance routines from choreographer Honey Kalaria, an audience-fuelled flash mob and gripping drama re-imagine Bizet’s popular opera Carmen, Bollywood style. It’s set to pop song mash-ups and Kuljit Bhamra’s Bollywood adaptations of Bizet’s classic score, along with Bradford-based band RDB and British Asian music producers Bobby Wonda and Angel.

Bollywood Carmen Live is in partnership with the City of Bradford, the world’s first UNESCO City of Film and is a co-production between BBC Three, BBC North and BBC Music Television.
