The British Film Institute and Poisson Rouge Pictures are joining forces to finance Gone Too Far, debut helmer Destiny Ekaragha's adaptation of Bola Agbaje's play.
The project is one of the first announced to receive production funding from the BFI Film Fund since the launch of its five-year plan Film Forever: Supporting U.K. Film on Oct. 3.
The coming-of-age comedy follows two estranged brothers, played by Brit Malachi Kirby and Nigerian O.C. Ukeje, who meet for the first time. Other cast members include U.K. actresses Shanika Warren-Markland and Adelayo Adedayo, and Nigerian actress Golda John. The play, first performed at London's Royal Court Theater, received the Olivier Award for outstanding achievement in an affiliated theater in 2007.
The BFI's five-year plan emphasizes the importance of supporting aspirant and emerging filmmakers, and "Gone Too Far" is a clear example of that approach. The Film Fund will consider low-budget features from first-time directors at quarterly awards meetings.
Lensing will start Oct. 22 for four weeks in East and South London.
