For 3 Minutes 2012
November 10th – November 17th 2012

For 3 Minutes – A Project specially designed for Channel 4 during Global Entrepreneurs week, which will take fourteen candidates on the journey to understand the Media Industry from within an organisation and going it alone as an Entrepreneur.

Following on the from the success of last years pilot project ‘For 3 Minutes’ and as part of Channel 4's Global Entrepreneurship Week, People Development at Channel 4 in association with Carve Productions are offering a very rare opportunity for fourteen individuals to take part in 'For 3 Minutes' a project that will explore whether individuals are best suited working within the Media Industry in the traditional sense of working their way up as they learn within an organisation like Channel 4 or to become a Media Entrepreneur and set up on their own. This will be done in a very unique and practical way in offering the individuals involved the opportunity to take a brief from a Channel 4 Commissioner and create an idea for a programme which has multi-platform elements for TV Broadcast, Online and Social Media Outlets. We are looking for budding media entrepreneurs who are:

  • Producers / Production Managers
  • Directors
  • Writers
  • Editors
  • Camera Operators
  • Presenters
  • Researchers

who have already started on their media journey and wanting to explore what working style would work best. Working for Channel 4 as you build up your knowledge of the industry to explore where your talent can take you OR go it alone, become a Media Entrepreneur, set up your own company or work in the industry as a freelance individual.

Hosted by TV Presenter Steve Milne; we will create two groups from candidates who will have one week to take the open brief set by the Channel 4 Commissioner and as a team come up with and create a 3-minute teaser for Channel 4. The week will involve working closely with individuals within Channel 4 and Carve Productions who will help on this journey.

The Usual Suspects
Tuesday 13th November
6pm – 9pm

Channel 4 have teamed up with the BBC and ITV to launch an evening of panel discussion and networking with industry managers, interns and apprentices across our respective corporations. The evenings focus will be off-screen opportunities in television, so rather than the usual 'production focus' we will be talking about placements in Sales, Research, Online and Marketing, to name a few.

The event will kick off with a panel discussion with the industry leaders in the creation and promotion of paid work placements in TV including:

  • Marsha Witter – Talent Scheme Manager at ITV
  • Colin Campbell-Austin – People Development Manager at Channel 4
  • Simon Wright – Talent Executive at the BBC
The panel will be chaired by Martin Sigsworth, recently graduated from Channel 4's Production Trainee Scheme. For more info, click here.

There are many journeys through life that we all take, paths we cross and others we don`t, the journey we each take is our own experieance and from the people we meet to the places we travel, these experiences all shape us into the individuals we become, and its important never to forget this. With this in mind it is my reason for making this site with the hope that it might inspire others through their own journeys by relating to the stories and challenges my own journey has given me, from the highs to the lows. I believe we can all relate somehow to other peoples lives, which can have such a positive and inspiring effect for each of us to go out and live our dreams.
