The BFI London Film Festival returns for the 60th time this year and today announced the roster of films that will be included in its 12-day celebration of cinema.

Highlights this year include the European premiere of Amma Asante’s A United Kingdom, which stars David Oyelowo and Rosamund Pike, and the first European screening of Free Free, starring Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy and Michael Smiley. The film is directed by Ben Wheatley, who also directed 2015’s High-Rise, which starred Tom Hiddleston.

Other films expected to cause a stir include Garth Davis’ feature debut Lion, which stars Dev Patel, Rooney Mara and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman. It tells the true story of a five-year-old Indian boy who is separated from his family after taking the wrong train and ends up being raised by an Australian couple – and who, 25 years later, tries to connect with his real parents.

There will also be a biopic of British football’s first superstar. George Best: All By Himself will trace Best’s tragic decline as alcoholism slowly tore apart his talent.

In total, there will be 193 fiction and 52 documentary features, of which 18 will be world premieres. Besides the feature-length screenings, 144 short films will also be shown.
