Six Scottish indies (STV Productions, Tern TV, IWC, Lion, Raise The Roof and Mentorn Media) will welcome talented diverse young people people to work in their companies for six months. They will provide them with a mentoring, training and networking plan to allow them to continue their career in production at the end of the six month period.
The Scottish scheme follows the success of the UK-wide scheme launched by Pact in 2013 which set out to increase access to television production to those from unrepresented groups. The programme was the first of its kind, carefully developed with indies working collectively to improve, nurture and develop new diverse talent. Of the 44 people who have taken part in the scheme, 38 have continued with their careers in television production.
John McVay, Chief Executive of Pact, said: "The Indie Diversity Scheme in Scotland highlights our commitment to supporting the creation of sustainable and diverse talent bases in the Nations and Regions."
Alan Clements, Head of Content at STV Productions, said: "We are proud to be part of Pact's new training scheme in Scotland. We are working with other Scottish indies to fund the initiative to provide a supported route into the industry for diverse new entrants."
What is unique about the Pact scheme is that it is fully funded by the companies involved and as well as offering a bespoke combination of training, mentoring and pastoral care, Pact tracks our alumni and offers pastoral help beyond the six month training period. The success of the London scheme run by Pact has had a huge impact in bringing together some of the top independent production companies including Endemol Shine, Warner Brothers and All3Media to provide a unique mentoring, networking and 'money can't buy' training plan for around 12 new talented individuals to the industry every year.
Jane Muirhead, Managing Director of Raise The Roof said: "Raise The Roof are thrilled to be involved in the Pact Scottish scheme. As a creative company looking to the future, nothing means more to us than developing young talent and ensuring a broad range of voices have access to our industry."
Sara Geater, Chief Executive of All3Media, said: "All3Media continues to be involved in the Indie Diversity Training Scheme, hosted by Pact, and this year we're delighted to be actively championing the first Scottish scheme through placements in Lion Television, along with four other indies based in Glasgow."
