SceneProfiles| Screen Nation Awards – Favourite International Movie Nominees

cinema

We all love a good movie and award season has been awash with great UK talent. Screen Nation will celebrate what has been an amazing year in cinema by awarding a film that has either been made by or stars a British talent with the Favourite International Movie award. What’s even better is that YOU will be able to decide who wins. See the nominations below and get voting!

12 Years a Slave

If you haven’t heard about this film then where have you been?! Directed by Brit Steve McQueen and starring Brit actor Chiwetel Ejiofer, Michael Fassbender, Lupita Nyong’o and Brad Pitt, 12 Years is definitely the darling of the 2014 award season. Co-produced by Film4, the film is an adaptation of the 1853 memories of Solomon Northup, a free black man who was kidnapped and sold into slavery. With a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture already on its mantlepiece, will they be adding a Screen Nation award to their list?

House at the End of the Street

Directed by Brit Mark Tonderai, House at the End of the Street stars Hollywood heavyweight Jennifer Lawrence alongside Max Thieriot, Gil Bellows and Elisabeth Shue. The American psychological horror and thriller follows the story of a mother and daughter who move into a new town and get embroiled in a mystery involving…yep the house at the end of the street. Director Mark is an ex DJ (BBC Radio 1) who also writes, acts and is the co-founder of production company Shona Productions. Will he be in luck on the 23rd of February?

Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom

Team one of Britain’s hottest leading men with the story of one of the most inspirational people to have ever lived and what do you get? The release of Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom coincided with the unfortunate passing of Nelson Mandela so what more fitting than a film that documents his journey, passion for justice and love for humankind. Brit Idris Elba puts in a great performance and as with 12 Years this is another award season favourite. A Screen Nation award favourite perhaps?

The Butler

SceneTV favourite Aml Ameen stars alongside the brilliant Forest Whittaker, fellow Brit David Oyelowo and Oprah Winfrey (yes…Oprah!) in the story of Cecil Gaines, an African-American who eyewitnesses notable events of the 20th century during his 34-year tenure serving as a White House butler. Directed by Lee Daniels and on a budget of $30 million, the film has already grossed over $167 million worldwide. Not bad eh? Will it clean up at the Screen Nation Awards? (I couldn’t resist!)
