On 7th February, SceneTV attended the screening for new series The Method of Love, which stars Chucky Venn (EastEnders). With the pilot being released online on Valentine’s Day (February 14th at 5pm), the audience at the Soho House venue were definitely in for a preview treat.
What's The Method of Love (TML) all about?
Using London’s buzzing streets as a backdrop, audiences will witness the characters go through hazardous journeys of self-discovery in the quest to find true love.
Regardless of whether TML becomes a web series or is commissioned for television, it definitely has a point of difference. There are quite a few web series and short films about dating and relationships but TML feels mature in tone, tackling relationships from a deeper psychological stand point and sits fully in the realm of a dramatic series rather than comedy. Quality is clearly top of their list and this shows through the acting and the production values. It’s always surprising and inspiring to see how much can be done on minimal budgets and with every new independent production that rises, it’s great to see production values get better and better. Of course, SceneTV loves anything that gives new and creative talent a platform and so is this TML, with established actor Chucky Venn starring alongside rising actors and actresses.
So what about the stories? Well, there is enough to go around for everyone making this show both entertaining and relatable. April and Niko are newlyweds, passionate about each other but how long is it before the reality of life and tough love kicks in? Annabel is mysterious and in love, desperate to have the same love returned to her…but how far will she go? How does your cultural upbringing affect how you learn to give love to others? Charlotte has had to deal with loss of a loved one. With a young daughter dependent on her, will she be able to move forward and leave her demons behind? Then there are the playboys Frankie and Chris, enjoying the fast money and fast women…but for both there lies deep insecurities that are sure to be revealed. These are just a few of the stories bubbling in the show. What is most interesting is that clearly, nothing is as it seems and it will be fun to see twist and turns that take place.
The aim is for the series to be 9 episodes each 20 minutes long, but whether it comes to our screens depends on the support the pilot receives so stay tuned to SceneTV to get a first look at the pilot as soon as it drops. In the meantime, see below for teasers from the show.
