Check out the trailer for Imperial Dreams, starring Brit star John Boyega. Brought to Sundance two years ago by Like Crazy producer Jonathan Schwartz, the film won the Best of NEXT Audience Award and was on the way to being sold before the picture was seen by J.J. Abrams which then led him to consider Boyega for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Promotion for Imperial Dreams was put on hold but now is back on the market and buyers screenings are being held to hopefully land a distribution deal.
Inspired by true events, Imperial Dreams is about a 21-year-old reformed gangster’s devotion to his family and future, which is put to the test when he is released from prison and returns to his old stomping grounds in Watts, Los Angeles. Malik Vitthal directed the film and wrote it with Ismet Prcic, and Schwartz; Andrea Sperling and Katherine Fairfax Wright produced. Audrey and Zygi Wilf serve as executive producers.
Boyega’s upcoming projects include Star Wars: Episode VIII and The Circle, in which he stars opposite Tom Hanks and Emma Watson. He is repped by WME, UK agent Femi Oguns of Identity Agency Group, and Hansen, Jacobson. WME Global and CAA are co-repping Imperial Dreams.
