With so many youngsters saying they want to be famous when they grow up, documentary series Secret World Of… reveals the hard work and network of people behind those who seek fame. The five-part series includes a journey behind the scenes with dance crew Flawless as they embark on a groundbreaking collaboration with the English National Ballet. Another of the 30-minute episodes takes a look at what it takes to find a new young star for Shrek the Musical, while another discovers what it takes to make a television show with Tracy Beaker star Dani Harmer. The final two episodes look at how young footballers cope with fame on and off the pitch at the Manchester City Football Academy under 18s, and a trip behind the scenes at the house of Commons with Speaker John Bercow.
Secret World Of… was commissioned by CBBC controller Damian Kavanagh, who has also ordered a new series for BBC children's stars Dick and Dom. Hoopla sees the pair – Richard McCourt and Dominic Wood – move from their usual bungalow to a funfair but continue with their usual mix of games, entertainment and humour. Also new to CBBC this year is another new documentary series called Superhumans, which looks at real-life superheroes, and an American travelogue called All Over the Place USA.
Kavanagh said: "These recent additions to the CBBC pipeline are all very different and each brings something new for our audience to experience and enjoy. It's important that we continue to offer children programmes they wouldn't find anywhere else except on CBBC."
