Channel 4 is partnering with TriForce Creative Network and MonologueSlam UK to support new acting talent from all backgrounds and help up and coming actors progress their careers. More than 20 actors will have the opportunity to showcase their talents and potentially make their big break into acting thanks to this new initiative.
MonologueSlam UK gives professional actors the chance to perform a prepared monologue in front a judging panel at a series of events held across the UK. Twenty-two actors will go to the final in London in December where they will perform in front of key industry decision makers. Channel 4 will also select 10 of the best finalists and explore ways to champion their careers with Channel 4 Drama. Regional events are held throughout the UK giving hundreds of actors the opportunity to boost their careers. Every panel has at least four judges, all of whom are in a position to help the actors’ careers. Those actors who make it through to the final will find themselves performing in front of a Channel 4 drama commissioner and other leading industry figures, giving the finalists a unique chance to pitch their talent directly to key decision makers.
Ramy El-Bergamy, Channel 4’s On-Screen Diversity Executive, said: “Increasing diversity both on screen and off is hugely important to Channel 4 – we’re excited to be partnering with TriForce Creative Network on their MonologueSlam UK programme to tackle the issue of on screen diversity head on. The beauty of MonologueSlam UK is that gender, race, colour, sexuality and social background don’t come into it, it’s purely down to talent and it gives us direct access to a hugely diverse pool of talent.”
Fraser Ayres, co-founder, TriForce Creative Network, said: “We believe that all talent should be nurtured regardless of a performer’s background or circumstance. MonologueSlam uncovers the freshest untapped talent, and we’re delighted that Channel 4 is on board to make 2016 our biggest year yet.”
TriForce has produced the events to give breaks to talent who might not have access to the usual routes into the industry, and entry into the event is free. Channel 4’s involvement will also enable TriForce to cover travel expenses for actors attending the Monologue Slam UK National Final in Stratford East on 12 December if necessary.
