Redemptions End is a four part web series created and executive produced by Claudius Peters and written and directed by Daniel Rusteau. The unusual storyline definitely grabs your attention – it follows a group of friends, desperate for money, who steal dead bodies to sell on the black market. Things then take a turn for the worse.
It’s always refreshing to see new and unique stories being told and this is one of the reasons why Redemptions End came about. Claudius said:
I felt that there was a slight lack of original content coming out from the diaspora. On one hand, I understood that people were tired of seeing ‘negative stereotypes’ on screen but I didn't feel the ONLY answer to that was to make super safe content. I still wanted to see OUR Don Draper (MadMen) , Walter White (Breaking Bad), or even comedic ones like Andy Bernard (The Office USA) – multi layered characters and original stories that demanded a little bit more from our audiences. So once I had a concept, a plot and a little bit of money saved (lol) I decided to get to work and create one.
I remember telling a couple friends about the idea for a show but at that point it was just a story in my head. When we finally shot it I must say there was a small sense of pride.
Creating a web series is never easy – taking an idea and making it come to life independently. Claudius remembers all too clearly why it wasn’t all smooth sailing. But at least he did take away an important learning…insurance!
Our van got broken in to and robbed. I had to pay for sound and lighting equipment. This cost a LOT of money and we didn't have a production company behind us so it pretty much all fell on me to make sure we continued and of course…to pay.
But by the sounds of things, it was all worth it as Claudius reveals some exciting plans for the series and his career:
Redemptions End has been approached by a TV station to screen the episodes here in the UK and across Europe which is cool. I have been playing with the idea of a new show that I’m excited about. It’s a drama that I will be co-writing. Once again it’s about creating an original story so this time it’s a dark drama with comedic undertones. Also both the main antagonist and protagonist will be female.
Finally, when asked why people should vote for Redemptions End, the humble creator said:
That’s a tough one. I would say we set out to make a new show that didn't exist anywhere else. We really wanted people to like everything about, the writing, the directing, the music (which was composed), and the acting so at least if the STORY wasn't your thing, you would not leave the show thinking it was poor standard .That said I think ultimately everyone should take the time and watch all of the nominees and then make their own decision. I’m sure everyone in this category put their all into making a show so at least give them that.
