Sanjeev Bhaskar's chat show The Kumars at Number 42 will return in a new Sky 1 series The Kumars at No 42B later this year. Bhaskar's new series will follow the Kumar family after having been forced to share a flat in Hounslow in west London, due to the economic downturn.
“It’s incredibly exciting to revisit these warm, oddball characters and bring them up to date,” Bhaskar has said.
The chat show host is hoping to retain elements of the original show, while introducing new characters in a slightly different format. In the six years since the show was last aired, the family will take on a new form, with Sanjeev (played by Bhaskar) as a divorcee and forced to share custody of his daughter. Actress Meera Syal – Bhaskar's wife in real life – will return as the grandmother Ummi.
The original show was featured on BBC One and BBC Two and had seven series between 2001 and 2006. It won an international Emmy in 2002.
