DCM Meets Chris Ficarra – SVP Marketing, MTV Music Group

Digital Content Monetization recently interviewed Chris Ficarra, Senior Vice President at MTV Music Group. Chris is one of the speakers at the DCM East conference which takes place on the 11th-14th of October 2011 in New York. Digital Content Monetization is a multi-stream summit incorporating only the most senior strategists and decision-makers in Film, Sports, TV, Publishing, Games and Music. They contribute to a 3 day agenda which addresses their major need: the need to know how to build sustainable business and technology models to enable multi-platform delivery of digital content.

Check out what Chris had to say about social networks, being screen agnostic, ‘going viral’ and MTV’s role in breaking records.

DCM: What is the biggest challenge content owners face at the moment?
CF: People face technology moving and evolving so fast that it’s hard for content rights to keep pace. Everyone wants to distribute content through new technology platforms but they change the rights equation. New technology is useless without the content. Screens colliding is truly exciting but hard to plan for. We’re trying to super-serve content and take advantage of new platforms to interact with our viewers. We need to figure out how to be platform agnostic.

DCM: What markets will see most growth in the next 2 years?
CF: Branded entertainment. The upside is that quality content, music, can be a great medium to create branded experiences to serve fans, but also to get messages across in a seamless way. We just re-launched MTV Unplugged with Starburst and fans are celebrating, doing social viewing parties and having conversations about it on Twitter, Facebook etc. We can rally an audience and then distribute it again on VoD.
