Throughout June, BFI Southbank in London have been championing female voices across our programme, with a brilliant Women with a Movie Camera Summit, and month-long seasons dedicated to Agnes Varda, Ida Lupino and Ava DuVerney. The programme concludes this weekend, and as a final treat, they have just confirmed that this Friday 29th June, the brilliant Ava DuVernay will take part in a Skype Q&A following a screening of her searing documentary 13th.

This feature length documenary is an in-depth look at the legacy of the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution and highlights the underlying issues of inequality and mass incarceration which have been created despite the amendment. A long-term passion project for DuVernay, this is a riveting piece of non-fiction that was nominated for an Academy Award in 2017 and boasts contributions from major thinkers.
