As the exclusive online media partner for the Screen Nation Digital-iS Media Awards we will be featuring each of the nominees in the lead up to the awards ceremony on 17th December. The event, which is in conjunction with Vox Africa (Sky218) and sponsored by Google and Afrinolly, will celebrate the best online content produced by black British and international digital media creatives across short film, web series, music promos, blogs, magazines, social networks and more. Tickets to the awards are sold out but you can still attend the after party – click here.
The next featured nominee is Segilola Scott, who is up for the Favourite Web Series Actress award. She is the lead actress in the web series Breach, which was the beginning of her online journey. However, this young lady has more than one string to her bow as she also has her own production company and directs. Speaking about her proudest achievement Segilola said:
“Producing my first feature ‘Mum, Dad, Meet Sam’ under my own production company OKP Productions”
And her biggest learning?
“Learning how to direct on the go for the first time. I directed ‘Love Prevails’, a 10 minute short film in May this year which then went on to be officially selected at the British Urban Film Festival in September. I plan to market my feature film and have a film premiere in May and then hopefully on to worldwide distribution.”
When asked why people should vote for her Segilola goes on to explain why she place ‘DIY’ over complaining about the lack of diversity in the industry:
“I work hard at my craft and I’m one of the few actresses who instead of moaning about the lack of roles for black females actresses, I’ve gone ahead and written, directed and produced my own projects with great roles for myself. Winning this will propel me to the next level I need to be at, at this stage in my career and will allow me to be seen as a role model on a larger scale.”
