You may remember me posting about 'Shuga', the MTV Staying Alive campaign drama series that takes a look at the consequences of sexual decisions by young people on their lives as well as their partners and loved ones.
Well, they have announced a short-film competition for World AIDS Day where the winner will have their production shown globally alongside Shuga at the #ShugaTalks World AIDS Day event. See below for more info:
Do you have the skills and the passion to make a one minute film that informs people about risky sexual behaviour – and blow people’s minds while you’re at it?
MTV Staying Alive are looking for inspiring activists and film makers to produce a slick, compelling and informative 1 minute film along one of the following 4 themes:
MTV Staying Alive want YOU to submit your own videos – addressing one of the themes below while being as creative as possible in the process.
“The Naked Truth”
How many people are you sleeping with?
How many people have they slept with?
How many times have you been tested?
How many people your age, in your area have contracted HIV?
When you get naked – do you know the truth?
“The Games we play”
Is sex a game?
Is love a game?
Each roll of the dice with someone new, poses risks to our health, gambles with our life.
Are you ready to play?
“Young Love”
Nearly half of people who acquire HIV become infected before their 25th birthday.
Worldwide – AIDS is the second most common cause of death among 20-24 year olds?
If you’re young and in love – how do you make sure you grow old?
“Leaving a mark”
Tattoos, piercings, sharing needles
They all leave a mark – even if you can’t see it.
When you share a needle, you expose yourself to one of the most efficient ways of contracting HIV.
We will shortlist the top 5 entries in mid-November, when they’ll then be posted on the brand new Shuga Talks countdown page where YOU will be able to vote for who you think should win by ‘liking’ your favourite.
The more your film goes viral, the more votes, the more likely your film is to be shown at the Shuga Talks event.
Specification will be listed as follows:
– The film can be shot on a phone, a camera, whatever.
– Music: royalty free music – original composition is favourable. Please provide a music cue with source details.
– HD preferred.
Technical stuff:
To enter, email talks@mtvshuga.com with a link to your entry, your name, address and phone number as well as a blurb about yourself and the film in no more than 150 words.
The competition closes on Monday 14th November so you have to be quick. For more information about Shuga and the deadline schedule, visit the 'Shuga' Blog.
